Existing month to month, June 2015

June saw the release of the iOS app, better correlations, and a new Instagram integration.

Product development

On the web side, we moved from polling Fitbit and Jawbone for sleep and activity changes to using webhooks to receive real-time updates on user activity. We also added a new integration, Instagram, which was in "planned" status for a while, now finally ticked off.

Correlations also saw a fresh coat of paint, switching from plain-text sentences that many found confusing (for example, "You are much more likely (60%) to wake up later when you sleep more") to simpler rich-text correlations (for example, "You wake up later when you sleep more") which move the strength of the correlation out of the sentence itself.

The web dashboard's 8-day and 30-day graphs received stars on each day a goal is hit for steps, sleep, or productivity.

Mobile-wise, we finally released the iOS app! This companion app allows users to review past mood ratings and notes, as well as rating moods nightly.

Marketing

In June Belle published five links roundup posts and two features:

We also published two podcast episodes:

Other business stuff

We decided to change the delete/suspend account functionality so only users with an account over two months old could suspend their accounts, as a lot of users were converting for the first time and then immediately suspending their accounts. This will produce an increase in deleted accounts and official "churn" numbers, but I think this is a better choice.

Numbers

Business stats
  • 516 users (455 paid)
  • 73 free trial signups
  • 11% growth with 52 conversions from free to paid (71% conversion rate)
  • 3% churn with 14 cancelled accounts
  • 29 suspended accounts
  • $3,470.28 income after Stripe fees (70% growth from prior month)

We had five weekly transfers this month instead of the usual four, which accounts for around a fifth of the growth. Even so, this month sees some serious growth and marks the 6th month over $1k income, and 2nd regular month over $2k.

Site stats

Lifehacker continued to send a bit of extra traffic from our republished post last month. Habrahabr is some Russian site which appears to have copy-pasted one of Belle's posts from the Help Scout blog, helpfully leaving the Exist links in.

How'd we do?

We finally got the iOS app launched, which was worthy of celebrations (Belle's first app, live in the App Store!). We also made some good progress on the sites, making correlations much easier to understand and bringing Exist data closer to real-time with the introduction of Fitbit and Jawbone webhooks.

It's also been exactly a year since my first monthly review, so let's take a moment to reflect on how far we've come since then. I think we're doing pretty well.
